Suing the Department of Veterans Affairs for treatment delays

In our last post, we attempted to shed some light on the recent Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) misconduct scandal. If you are a veteran who has experienced harm as a result of delays in your care at VA hospitals, you may be wondering if you have any opportunities to seek compensation for this harm.

Understanding the current VA misconduct scandal

The media, the public and numerous members of the federal government have recently been in an uproar about a scandal involving the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This scandal has likely caused such outrage because when an individual suffers injury or illness as a result of military service the general expectation among both the public and the military itself is that this individual will be well cared for. Unacceptably, it seems that this is not always the case.

When members of the military are injured while serving this nation, the affected personnel, their loved ones and the general public generally expect that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will ensure that these heroes are properly taken care of. However, a recent scandal has revealed that some military personnel are being given more access to the services that they are entitled to than others are.

CDC releases interesting study related to disability

It is no secret that Americans often struggle with living healthy, active lifestyles. The obesity rate across the nation is skyrocketing, in part because many Americans either choose to or are compelled to live a sedentary lifestyle.

Understanding the practical consequences of the VA backlog

Last month, we discussed some good news that was recently been announced by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Specifically, we noted that the VA's backlog of disability benefits claims has been minimized by 44 percent since March of 2013. While this is a welcome development, we also noted that 344,000 claims remain stalled in the veterans disability application process for a period greater than 125 days.
