Obtaining SSD benefits when you have fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is an autoimmune condition that can be potentially debilitating to sufferers. For better and for worse, this condition is a so-called “invisible illness” that leaves few visible signs of the pain, fatigue and other medical challenges raging inside the bodies of individuals with the condition. It is so invisible that it can be extremely difficult to diagnose.

Fibromyalgia may be an invisible disease, but that does not mean that its consequences are invisible. Individuals with this condition often require various forms of medical treatment and prescription medications. They may often be referred to rheumatologists for tests and medical care. Records of these treatments and prescriptions can help to verify the debilitating nature of this condition.

Because this condition is potentially debilitating, the Social Security Administration does grant Social Security Disability benefits to some individuals diagnosed with this chronic disease. However, because fibromyalgia and other chronic pain and fatigue conditions can be so difficult to verify, the process of obtaining SSD benefits for this condition and others like it can be uniquely challenging.

As a result of these challenges, it is important that chronic pain and fatigue patients contact an experienced attorney if their condition has made it too difficult to work a full-time job anymore. While it can be difficult to secure SSD benefits for fibromyalgia and other conditions, it is not impossible to do so under a number of circumstances. If you would like to explore the possibility of obtaining SSD benefits due to your unique circumstances, it may benefit you to speak to an attorney who has experience dealing with chronic pain and fatigue sufferers specifically.
