SSDI benefits may be available for Tennessee car crash victims

A Tennessean who has been in a car accident may be reeling from the effects of the accident. Between pursuing a potential personal injury lawsuit, obtaining vehicle repairs and missing time away from work, there can be many repercussions following an accident. Car accident victims may be interested to learn that there may be help for them in the form of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits. Depending on their nature and severity, accident injuries may be qualifying injuries for purposes of SSDI benefits.

Whether a person qualifies for SSDI benefits after a car accident will depend on whether he or she qualifies as disabled. Some musculoskeletal injuries may lead to disability, and these types of injuries often happen in car accidents. For example, if a person has to have a limb amputated following an accident, he or she may meet the SSA's standards for disability.

Joint injuries that follow a violent impact in an accident can also leave a person facing an inability to work, and, therefore, he or she may qualify for SSDI benefits. Spine injuries and severe fractures, such as a pelvis fracture, can be debilitating and necessitate rehabilitation or long-term care. Additionally, soft tissue injuries such as burns may occur in a car accident and severely limit a person's ability to perform gainful activity.

Whether a Tennessean who has been injured in a car accident will qualify for benefits will depend on the nature of his or her injuries and his or her ability to function in light of those injuries, including whether he or she can move around effectively. An attorney may be able to discuss with an injured Tennessean the benefits that might be available, as well as the process for applying for such benefits.
