Understanding SSI benefits essential for Tennesseans

Many Tennesseans may be familiar with Social Security disability benefits, which may be available when a person has a qualifying disability, or Social Security retirement benefits. They may be less familiar with the Social Security Administration's Supplemental Security Income program, however. Significantly, some individuals may be able to receive both SSI benefits and other disability or retirement benefits, but it can be helpful to understand who may qualify for SSI benefits and how the program works.

SSI applicants benefit from assistance of Tennessee attorneys

The Social Security Administration (SSA) provides a great deal of information about the various benefits it offers, including both Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. However, despite the information they provide, Tennessee residents who need benefits may still have many questions. They may wonder about whether they will qualify for benefits, how to go about obtaining benefits, what to do if they are denied benefits on initial application and dozens of other questions.

Families of veterans may be eligible for veterans' benefits

Tennessee veterans may be aware that they may be eligible for Social Security Disability benefits following service to their country. They may not be aware, however, that their family members may also be able to receive veterans' disability benefits due to a veteran's injuries.

Am I eligible for conditional SSI benefits?

A Tennessean who wants to obtain Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits needs to meet certain federal requirements. One of those requirements is based on a person's limited assets. To receive SSI benefits, an individual Tennessean must have no more than $2,000 in countable resources, or a couple may have up to $3,000 in assets.
