Understanding when there might be an SSD benefits review

Tennessee residents who receive Social Security disability might feel a certain amount of relief when they are approved. It is easy to come to the conclusion that there are no more worries about receiving SSD benefits. However, the reality is that those who are receiving Supplemental Security Income or Social Security disability will have their situation reviewed so the Social Security Administration can make sure the benefits are still necessary.

In general, those who have not improved sufficiently to have their benefits stop will keep receiving SSD benefits. During the review, the claimant will have the chance to show that the disability is still of sufficient severity and the inability to work remains in place to keep getting benefits. The evidence of the illness, condition or injury will be evaluated. There is no set time for when the reviews will take place. It depends on the individual circumstances. For those whose condition is expected to improve, there will be a review between six and 18 months after the date of disability. For those who have a chance at improvement but there is no accurate method to predict it, the review will be conducted around every three years. And, if no improvement is expected at all, the review will take place every seven years.

The SSA will inform the claimant via letter that they should go to the local Social Security office if there is going to be a review. At the review, the claimant will be asked how the medical condition is affecting them. Also, the person will have to provide the names and contact information of their doctors or any other medical professional who has treated them. A person who has been able to work since the previous review will have to provide information regarding that.

Every state has Disability Determination Services. They will make the decision on whether or not the benefits will continue as they consult with medical professionals. If more information is needed, then it might be necessary for the claimant to have a special examination that will be conducted at no cost. For those who are facing a review of their Social Security disability benefits, it is important to know when this is going to take place. Having help from an attorney can be beneficial with a review or any other issue related to requirements to receive and maintain disability payments.
